What is the Importance of yoga

The yoga system of wellness is a culture that has been used by the yogis for thousands of years in India. It has its roots hidden deep in the past. Yoga emphasizes physical and mental balance and brings about a calmness of the soul that is advantageous to the entire nervous system. It educates the people about the fundamental principles of wellness and allows for the large intensity of activity of the mind, body, and soul.
Therefore, the importance of yoga in modern life is tremendous and more than what most people realize. Those people who are already practicing yoga may have better mental clarity and focus and may also benefit physically by increasing flexibility, toning and strengthen the muscles among others.
Most people believe that yoga is a practice that includes a set of postures or exercises that help to benefit the physical health. However, the importance of doing yoga is much more than that. Hence, to understand better about what is the importance of yoga in our daily life, here are 5 yoga practices for mind that can help you bring joy to your life, clear your thinking and will allow you to attain serenity:
1.      Exercise Ahimsa (non-violence):
This yoga practice refers to refraining from harming anyone physically. For instance, you should avoid making any caustic comments or get involved in a gossip session. Casually think about the impact your comments or actions have on others and see what measures you can take not to cause suffering to other beings.
2.      Satya (stay truthful):
Although it is true that small lies somehow act as a social lubricant and make life better for all humans each lie you tell chips away at your being without you even knowing about it. So instead of lying, try and say the truth.
3.      Asteya (do not steal):
Do you take the credit for the work done by someone else at your office?  Do you make false comments about others and take away their reputation? Be it by word or by deed; you are taking away something which does not rightfully belong to you. Therefore, refrain from ‘stealing’ that is not rightfully yours as the universe will give you what belongs to you.
4.      Practice Brahmacharya (self-restraint):
The notion here in this yoga practice is that you should live your life in a way that your drives will be sublimated. You should channel the force of your senses into more of productive pursuits. In fact, most of the poets and artists come up with their creative outputs due to this same energy source.
5.      Aparigraha (do not cling to anything):
When you enjoy a good meal at a restaurant, you immediately make a mental note that you will visit the place again. When you cling to something, you are attached to a memory which has already gone which prevents you from enjoying the moment that will come in the future. So practice giving up clinging, and you will notice that even the smallest of success will make a big difference in your life.
